1. On October 5, 1907, Oklahoma officially became the 46th state in the United States.

2. On October 5, 1920, the first commercial oil well in Oklahoma was completed by the Wirt Franklin Oil Company in the Seminole oilfield.

3. On October 5, 1936, Woody Guthrie, the famous folk singer and songwriter, performed on the radio program "The Oklahoma Roundup" for the first time. Guthrie grew up in Okemah, Oklahoma, and much of his music was inspired by his experiences in the state.

4. On October 5, 1957, the Central Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak occurred, which included the deadliest tornado in Oklahoma history. The F5 tornado struck the town of Udall, Kansas, killing 80 people.

5. On October 5, 1985, the University of Oklahoma's football team won their 48th straight game at home, breaking the NCAA record for consecutive home victories. The record still stands today.
