1. In 1864, Kentucky Governor Thomas Bramlette issued a proclamation calling for a day of fasting and prayer, in response to the ongoing Civil War. He asked for the state's citizens to observe October 6 as a day of "solemn supplication to Almighty God for the restoration of peace and harmony to our beloved country."

2. In 1962, the University of Kentucky football team recorded one of the biggest upsets in college football history, defeating top-ranked Ole Miss by a score of 27-21. The victory earned the Wildcats the nickname the "Greatest 27-21 Upset in History."

3. In 1927, the Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm, also known as the Grotto, was established in Louisville. The Grotto is a fraternal organization that focuses on fun, fellowship, and philanthropy, and it has more than 120 chapters across the United States.

4. In 1988, Kentucky governor Wallace Wilkinson announced plans to move the state capital from Frankfort to Lexington. The proposal was met with resistance from many state lawmakers and citizens, and it was ultimately abandoned.

5. In 2009, a fire broke out at the General Electric Appliance Park in Louisville, causing an estimated $1 billion in damages. The fire started in a storage area for plastic parts and quickly spread, prompting the evacuation of more than 1,200 employees. No one was injured in the blaze, but the plant was closed for several weeks while repairs were made.
