1. In 1808, William T. Barry, who would later serve as the 10th Governor of Kentucky and as a United States Senator, was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

2. On September 12, 1862, the historic Battle of Munfordville began. The Confederate army, led by General Braxton Bragg, attacked Union troops under the command of Colonel John T. Wilder. Despite facing heavy opposition, the Union forces were able to hold their ground for several days before finally surrendering.

3. In 1902, the Kentucky School for the Blind opened its doors in Louisville. The school was established as a way to provide education and support for blind children in the state.

4. On September 12, 1924, the University of Kentucky dedicated its new Commonwealth Stadium. The stadium, which was originally built to seat 22,000 fans, has since undergone several expansions and renovations and can now hold over 61,000 spectators.

5. In 2002, Kentucky native Johnny Depp made a surprise visit to the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville. Depp, who was in town for the premiere of his film "Once Upon a Time in Mexico", took part in a private tour of the museum dedicated to the boxing legend.
