2. In 1908, the Michigan State Police was established, making it the first state police agency in the United States.
3. In 1919, the infamous "Black Sox" scandal occurred, where eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of intentionally losing the World Series to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for money. One of these players, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, was from Pickens County, SC but lived most of his life in Savannah, GA in a house now on the National Register of Historic Places.
4. In 1982, the Detroit Lions defeated the Green Bay Packers in a game that is now known as the "Thanksgiving Day Massacre." The Lions won the game 27-7 and set a record for most sacks in a game with 12.
5. In 1993, Tom Selleck, star of the popular TV show "Magnum, P.I.," was honored by the Grand Rapids Institute for Information Democracy with the title of "Sexiest Man Alive."
