1. On September 18, 1850, a group of pioneers led by Isaac Morley established the settlement of Pleasant Grove in Utah County. The town was named after the natural beauty of the area, which was lush with trees and springs.

2. The University of Utah was officially opened on September 18, 1850, as the University of Deseret. The first classes were held in the Salt Lake City Council House, and the university went through several name changes before becoming the University of Utah in 1892.
