2. In 1901, the first cornhusking match was held in Nebraska. The competition, which involved teams of people racing to see who could husk the most corn in the shortest amount of time, quickly became a popular event throughout the state.
3. In 1927, the Nebraska Cornhuskers played their first football game in Memorial Stadium. The team, which had previously played at Nebraska Field, won the game 47-0 against the South Dakota Coyotes.
4. On September 2, 1977, the city of Kearney was hit by an F4 tornado. The tornado, which touched down just after 7pm, caused widespread damage throughout the city and killed two people.
