1. In 1780, the Battle of Groton Heights took place in Groton, Connecticut. British troops, under the command of Benedict Arnold, attacked Fort Griswold and killed over 80 soldiers and civilian defenders.

2. In 1792, the first Baptist church in Connecticut was organized in Hartford. This church later became known as the Center Church of Hartford and is still active today.

3. In 1862, the Union Army under General William Rosecrans defeated the Confederate Army at the Battle of Iuka in Mississippi. Many Connecticut soldiers fought in this battle and helped secure a Union victory.

4. In 1888, the first electric trolley in Connecticut began operating in Bridgeport. This new mode of transportation quickly became popular and led to the development of many new suburbs and neighborhoods.

5. In 2003, the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry under the state's constitution. This decision made Connecticut the second state in the country to legalize same-sex marriage after Massachusetts.
