1. On September 24, 1916, the physical education department was established at the University of North Dakota. It was one of the first physical education departments in the nation.

2. In 1926, a major hailstorm struck the town of Rugby on September 24. The hailstones were reported to be as large as grapefruits and caused extensive damage to crops and property.
