1. In 1850, the Salt Lake City Council designated a site for a new statehouse, the first public building to be constructed in Utah. This site was later abandoned in favor of the current location at Capitol Hill.

2. On September 27, 1880, the first electric street lights were installed in Salt Lake City, replacing gas lamps. This was a major milestone in the city's history and helped to modernize the urban landscape.

5. In 1993, the Utah State Capitol underwent a major restoration and renovation project, which included seismic upgrades, the restoration of historic artwork and furnishings, and the addition of new public spaces. The project was completed in 2008 and the Capitol remains an iconic landmark of Utah.
