4. In 1954, Hurricane Hazel struck the Florida Panhandle, causing widespread damage and resulting in 15 deaths. The hurricane also caused flooding along the St. Johns River and in the Everglades.
5. In 2003, the first regular season game of the NBA's Miami Heat was played at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. The Heat defeated the Orlando Magic 92-74 in front of a sold-out crowd.
