Known as "The Pride of West Virginia," the band has since become a beloved institution and has performed at numerous events, including presidential inaugurations and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

3. In 1950, the New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville opened to traffic. At the time, it was the longest steel arch bridge in the world and is now an iconic landmark of West Virginia.

4. In 1979, the first Oktoberfest celebration in West Virginia was held in Wheeling. The festival, which features German food, music, and beer, has become an annual tradition in many cities across the state.

5. On September 29, 1985, the West Virginia Mountaineers football team defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies 20-14 in what is now known as the "Miracle in Morgantown." With just seconds left in the game, West Virginia scored a touchdown to secure the win and send the home crowd into a frenzy. The game is considered one of the greatest moments in WVU football history.
