1. In 1830, the first railroad in Kentucky was chartered on September 6th. The Lexington and Ohio Railroad Company was given permission to build a 30-mile track from Lexington to the Ohio River, but the project was not completed until 1835.

2. On September 6, 1861, the city of Owensboro was occupied by Union troops during the Civil War. The city was an important transportation hub and the Confederates had previously taken control of it, but their forces were eventually driven out by the Union army.

4. On September 6, 1901, President William McKinley was shot by an assassin while attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. McKinley died from his injuries eight days later, making him the third U.S. president to be assassinated.

5. The Kentucky Bourbon Festival, which celebrates the state's famous whiskey, is held annually during the first week of September. The festival was first held in 1992 and has since grown to become one of the largest bourbon-related events in the world. The 2021 festival is scheduled to take place from September 16-19.
