1. In 1913, the first airplane flight across Kansas occurred on September 8th. An aviator named Cal Rodgers flew his Wright EX biplane from Joplin, Missouri to Wichita, Kansas, stopping along the way to repair his plane multiple times.

2. The famous western actor, Harry Carey, was born on September 8, 1878, in the town of Bronx, New York. However, he spent several years of his life in Wichita, Kansas, where he worked as a writer for the Kansas City Star newspaper.

3. September 8, 1864, was a significant day during the Civil War because it marked the beginning of William Quantrill's raid on Lawrence, Kansas. Quantrill and his Confederate guerrilla troops attacked and burned most of the town, resulting in the deaths of around 150 men and boys.

4. In 1910, the first state fair was held in Hutchinson, Kansas, and it opened on September 8th. Initially, the fair only lasted for two days, but it became so successful that it was eventually expanded to 10 days and is now one of the largest events in the state.
