1. On September 9, 1850, Washington Territory was established by an act of Congress. The new territory encompassed much of the Pacific Northwest region, including present-day Washington state, as well as parts of Montana and Idaho.

5. On September 9, 1999, the Seattle Mariners defeated the New York Yankees in a record-breaking 19-inning baseball game at Safeco Field in Seattle. The game lasted over seven hours, setting the record for the longest game in Safeco Field history.
