Can you tell us about yourself? 

"My name is Jennifer Hammond and I work Quitman Junior High School. I am the interventionists there. Uh, the school is located in Quitman, Mississippi and I've been there for 17 years." 

Why did you start a career in education?

"I started my career in education because I like to teach. I like to share my knowledge with kids. Uh, I also like the light bulb moment when the kid gets it." 

If you could have any other job what would it be and why?

"If I can have any other job. I'll work at a museum because I started life as a history teacher and I would love to be surrounded with artifacts all day long." 

How are kids different now than 30 years ago?

"The way the kids are different now than they were 30 years ago is because these kids are less internally motivated and they also have very much have a entitlement mindset." 

How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?

"Uh, teaching is different from 30 years ago. Teaching thin was more straight forward. The teacher taught, the students learned no hoops to jump through." 

What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?

"I would tell somebody who's thinking about becoming a teacher that it's the hardest job that you will ever love."

What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?

"And lastly, um, how would it make it easier for kids to learn? Uh, take the pressure off the teacher, let the teachers be individuals and let them be creative in the way that they, and, um, in their own way of teaching. Thank you."
