Can you tell us about yourself? 

Hi, my name is Julie Roda. I have been at Lakeshore High School for 26 years and I teach math. The school is located in St. Clair shores, Michigan.

Why did you start a career in education?

I started a career in education because I loved math. I loved kids and I love teaching. So I like teaching kids math.

If I could have any other job, what would it be and why?

What other job would I have? And what would it be? Um, probably something in like a, um, uh, an assistant to somebody. 

How are kids different than they were 30 years ago?

They want everything instantaneously. 

How is teaching different than it was 30 years ago?

The students are more demanding now than they used to be.

What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?

You have to have a lot of perseverance and a lot of personal strength. 

What would you change to help kids learn better?

The one thing I would change to help kids learn better is get rid of their cell phones, put them in their pockets. All right. That's all I have. Thank you.
