Can you tell us about yourself?
"Hi, I'm Wendy Astrologo. My students call me Ms.Astro. I work at Meadowview Elementary School in Radcliffe, Kentucky. I'm an instructional assistant and, um, I work with first through fifth grade. Um, February 8th will me my one year anniversary of working there."
Why did you start a career in education?
"I started a career in education to be that positive role model that most children don't have."
If you could have any other job what would it be and why?
"I could have any other job. I've always wanted to be a police officer. Um, I have a passion for helping people."
How are kids different now than 30 years ago?
"Kids are different now compared to 30 years ago because there is more focus on technology. Kids are born with tablets in their hands."
How is teaching different now than 30 years ago?
"Teaching now, compared to 30 years ago is different because the teaching standards have shifted so much before teachers focused on life skills. Now they have to teach a set standard of different subjects."
What would you tell someone who wants to become a teacher?
"So if someone was wanting to become a teacher, I would tell them that they need to make sure that they have patients and be inclusive to all kinds of students."
What is one thing you would change to help kids learn better?
"To help kids learn better, I would change the standards on everyone being treated equally. Not all students learn the same ways."
