1. On April 2, 1791, the town of Manchester, New Hampshire was incorporated. Originally a small farming community, Manchester would go on to become a major manufacturing center in the 19th century, known especially for its production of textiles.

The commission was created in order to regulate and control the sale of alcohol in the state, and remains an important part of New Hampshire's economy today. The state is known especially for its tax-free liquor stores, which draw visitors from across New England and beyond.
