3. In 1975, Delaware's Coastal Zone Act was signed into law by Governor Sherman W. Tribbitt. This groundbreaking legislation established strict controls on industrial development in the state's coastal areas, in order to protect natural resources and wildlife habitats.

4. On August 21, 2014, Governor Jack Markell signed a bill legalizing medical marijuana in Delaware. The law permits licensed dispensaries to provide cannabis to patients with qualifying conditions, including cancer, epilepsy, and chronic pain.

5. In 2020, Delaware Senator Kamala Harris was named as Joe Biden's running mate in the presidential election. Harris, who was born in California but spent her early childhood in Wilmington, became the first woman of color to be nominated for national office by a major political party.
