4. In 1962, the first nuclear-powered submarine capable of carrying nuclear missiles, the USS Nathan Hale, was launched in Groton, Connecticut. The submarine was named after New Mexico-born Revolutionary War hero Nathan Hale.

5. In 2001, the University of New Mexico men's basketball team upset top-ranked Arizona 81-74, marking the first time in school history that the UNM Lobos defeated a top-ranked foe. The game took place in Tucson, Arizona.
