1. Incorporation of the City of Amarillo - On February 18, 1892, the city of Amarillo was officially incorporated. Located in the Texas panhandle, Amarillo has grown to become the 14th most populous city in the state.

2. Establishment of Fort Concho - On February 18, 1867, Fort Concho, a United States Army installation, was established in San Angelo, Texas. The fort played a significant role in the protection of settlers, as well as the Indian Wars.

3. First recorded flight in Texas - On February 18, 1910, A.C. Goodyear, a member of the Goodyear Tire family, made the first recorded flight in Texas at Fair Park in Dallas. The flight was witnessed by thousands of onlookers.

4. Birth of John H. Reagan - On February 18, 1818, John H. Reagan was born in Sevier County, Tennessee. He would later become a U.S. Congressman from Texas and serve as both a senator and a postmaster general in the Confederate States of America.

5. Launch of Challenger - On February 18, 1986, the space shuttle Challenger launched from the Kennedy Space Center with a crew of seven astronauts, including Texas native and mission specialist Ellison Onizuka. Tragically, the shuttle exploded 73 seconds into flight, killing all onboard.
