3. In 1968, the Amistad Murals were unveiled at the University of New Mexico. The Amistad Murals are a series of paintings that depict the African slave trade, the Amistad revolt, and the subsequent legal battles in the United States. They were created by Mexican artist Diego Rivera and remain one of his most significant works in the United States.

4. In 1998, the first snowboarder successfully completed a backflip over a moving automobile. Professional snowboarder Mike Basich accomplished this feat in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico, in front of a large crowd of onlookers. The stunt garnered national attention and helped propel snowboarding into the mainstream.

5. In 2015, the New Mexico State Capitol building underwent significant renovations.
