1. In 1850, the first Kentucky State Fair was held in Louisville. Over 10,000 people attended to see agricultural and mechanical exhibits.

2. On January 29, 1861, just weeks after Kentucky declared its neutrality in the Civil War, a group of pro-Confederate Kentuckians seized the federal arsenal in Frankfort. This event would eventually lead to Kentucky officially joining the Union.

3. In 1907, the Louisville Automobile Show opened to the public for the first time. This exhibition of new cars and automotive technology became an annual event and helped establish Louisville as a center for automobile manufacturing.

4. On January 29, 1924, the Kentucky Education Association was founded in Louisville. The organization aimed to improve education in the state and promote the welfare of teachers.

5. In 1984, Secretariat, one of the greatest racehorses in history, died at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. The chestnut colt won the Triple Crown in 1973 and set records that still stand today.
