1. On July 10, 1912, a massive forest fire known as the Brownfield Fire broke out in Oxford County, Maine. The fire burned over 50,000 acres and destroyed numerous homes and businesses before it was finally contained two weeks later. It remains one of the worst forest fires in Maine's history.

2. On July 10, 1925, the legendary American author and Nobel Laureate Ernest Hemingway married his second wife, Pauline Pfeiffer, in Paris, France. Hemingway spent many summers in Maine, and his experiences there influenced some of his most famous works, including "The Old Man and the Sea."

3. On July 10, 1981, the Maine State Ferry Service began operating a new, larger ferry between Rockland and North Haven Island. The new ferry, named the Captain Neal Burgess, was designed to handle the increasing traffic and freight between the two locations, and is still in service today.

5. On July 10, 2010, the town of Wilton, Maine, celebrated its bicentennial with a parade and other festivities. Founded in 1810, Wilton has a rich history, including being home to one of the first woolen mills in the state, and the birthplace of two governors of Maine.
