3. The Lava Hot Springs Fire: On March 14, 1924, a devastating fire swept through the town of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. The blaze destroyed over half of the downtown area, including the post office, several hotels, saloons, and other businesses.
4. Idaho's First Bear Hunt: On March 14, 1938, the state of Idaho held its first black bear hunt. The state had just passed a law allowing hunting of the animals after they had become too numerous in some areas.
5. Earthquake in Challis: On March 14, 1983, a powerful earthquake struck the small town of Challis, Idaho. The quake measured 6.9 on the Richter scale and caused widespread damage throughout the area. Despite its strength, there were no fatalities reported in the aftermath of the earthquake.
