1. On March 19, 1778, the Shawnee Indians attacked Boonesborough, one of the first settlements in Kentucky. Led by Chief Blackfish, the attack lasted for two days before the settlers were able to fend off the attack.

2. In 1842, the University of Louisville was founded on March 19th. It is the oldest city-owned university in the United States.

3. On March 19, 1861, Confederate sympathizers launched an attack on the U.S. arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia (now West Virginia). The arsenal was a strategic target because it included weapons and ammunition that could be used against the Confederacy.

4. The Kentucky State Capitol, located in Frankfort, opened on March 19, 1910. The building was designed by architect Frank Mills Andrews and is known for its Beaux-Arts architecture style.

5. Kentucky native, Phil Simms, was born on March 19, 1954. He went on to play quarterback for the New York Giants and led them to victories in Super Bowl XXI and XXV. He later became a television analyst and commentator for CBS Sports.
