1. On March 24, 1960, the world's largest cheese was made in Wisconsin. The 34,591-pound cheddar cheese was created by a cooperative of farmers in Hilbert, Wisconsin, and was displayed at the Wisconsin Pavilion during the 1964 World's Fair in New York.

2. In 1874, the University of Wisconsin was awarded its first charter as the state's public university. Since then, the school has grown to become one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the United States.

3. On March 24, 1878, a major fire broke out in the city of Eau Claire, destroying much of the downtown area. The blaze started in a hardware store and quickly spread to neighboring buildings. Despite the devastation, the city was quickly rebuilt and continued to grow in the following years.

4. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps was established as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal. The program provided jobs and training for young men, and many of the projects that they worked on, such as building trails and bridges in state parks, can still be seen in Wisconsin today.

5. On March 24, 1999, a major snowstorm hit Wisconsin, dumping as much as 24 inches of snow in some areas. The storm caused widespread power outages and travel disruptions, but also provided a beautiful winter scenery for those who were able to enjoy it safely.
