5. On March 3, 1902, a group of 50 Wyoming coal miners trapped underground in the Kemmerer Coal Mine were rescued. The miners had been trapped for four days after an explosion in the mine, and their rescue was a celebrated event in Wyoming's mining history. Today, the Kemmerer Coal Mine is considered one of the largest coal reserves in the world.
