1. On May 15, 1918, the Texas Legislature passed a law establishing the University of Texas School of Law. Today, it is one of the top law schools in the country and has produced many successful lawyers and judges.

2. In 1836, on May 15, Mexican General Santa Anna arrived at the Alamo mission in San Antonio with his army. The Texian defenders, including Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, fought bravely but were ultimately defeated. This battle became a symbol of Texas' fight for independence and inspired the famous battle cry, "Remember the Alamo!"

3. On May 15, 1850, Texas officially became a state of the United States. The Lone Star State was admitted to the Union as the 28th state after more than a decade of negotiations and political maneuvering.

4. In 1930, on May 15, Ellen Lawson Dabbs became the first woman to serve in the Texas Legislature. She was appointed to fill the seat of her late husband and went on to serve three consecutive terms, advocating for education and women's rights.

5. On May 15, 1962, American astronaut Scott Carpenter orbited the Earth three times aboard the spacecraft Aurora 7. Carpenter was one of the famous "Mercury Seven" astronauts and this mission helped pave the way for the United States' space program.
