1. In 1836, the Battle of Fort Parker took place near present-day Groesbeck. A large group of Comanche and Kiowa warriors attacked the fort and killed or captured many of the settlers inside. 5. In 2018, the Santa Fe High School shooting shocked the state and the country. The campus of the school, located near Houston, was the site of a mass shooting that left 10 people dead and 13 injured. The incident sparked a national conversation about gun violence and school safety.
