2. The first woman to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vermont graduated: On May 31, 1883, Florence Cushing graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Arts degree, becoming the first woman to receive this degree in the state.

3. Vermont's first statewide primary election was held: On May 31, 1972, Vermont held its first statewide primary election for all political parties. Prior to this, political parties held their own separate primary elections.
