1. George Washington stayed in New Jersey on November 25, 1783. After the end of the Revolutionary War, Washington chose to resign his commission as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army in the Old Senate Chamber of the Maryland State House. During his journey back to his home at Mount Vernon, Washington stopped in cities throughout the Northeast to great fanfare, including stops in Trenton and Newark, New Jersey.
2. On November 25, 1795, the New Jersey State Assembly passed an act to incorporate the township of Caldwell, located in Essex County. Caldwell was named for the Reverend James Caldwell, a prominent figure in the Revolutionary War and the pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
3. The Garden State Parkway, a major highway in New Jersey, was dedicated on November 25, 1954. The parkway, which runs the length of the state from Cape May to the New York border, was originally designed as a scenic route to connect the major cities and attractions of New Jersey.
4. In 1961, the first indoor shopping mall in the United States opened its doors in Paramus, New Jersey. The Garden State Plaza, which still stands today, was a major milestone in American retail history, and sparked a trend of indoor shopping centers that continues to this day.
5. November 25, 1986 marked the opening of the Atlantic City Convention Center, a massive facility designed to attract major conventions and events to the shore town. The center has played host to a wide variety of events, including sports competitions, concerts, political gatherings, and trade shows.
