1. On November 26, 1788, West Virginia became the 10th state to ratify the United States Constitution. Prior to statehood, West Virginia was part of Virginia until it separated during the Civil War.

2. The first electric streetcar began operation in Charleston, West Virginia on November 26, 1891. The streetcar was powered by overhead electric wires and ran along Washington Street.

3. On November 26, 1927, the first public radio station in West Virginia, WTAW (now known as WCHS), began broadcasting in Charleston. It was one of the first radio stations in the United States to be owned and operated by a newspaper.

4. The West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind was established on November 26, 1870 in Romney, West Virginia. The school was originally known as the West Virginia Institution for the Education of the Deaf, Dumb and Blind and was the first of its kind in the state.

5. On November 26, 1968, the historic Hotel Morgan in Morgantown, West Virginia was destroyed by a fire. The hotel was built in 1925 and was a popular destination for visitors to the town. The site of the hotel is now home to the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center.
