1. The Kentucky Wildcats, a popular college basketball team based in the state, won their first game of the 1905-1906 season on November 4, 1905, defeating Georgetown College 68-6.

2. On November 4, 1930, the notorious gangster and bank robber John Dillinger was captured by law enforcement officials in Dayton, Ohio. Dillinger had been on the run for several months, after escaping from jail in Indiana.

3. On this day in 1946, the first commercial airline flight to land at the new Louisville International Airport, then called Standiford Field, took place. The airport had recently been expanded to accommodate larger planes, and the inaugural flight was operated by American Airlines.

4. Kentucky native and former U.S. Vice President Alben Barkley died on November 4, 1956 at the age of 78. Barkley had served as Vice President under President Harry S. Truman from 1949 to 1953, and was also a long-serving Senator from Kentucky.

5. In 2008, Barack Obama became the first Democrat to win the state of Kentucky in a presidential election since 1992. Obama defeated his Republican opponent John McCain by a margin of approximately 16,000 votes, on November 4 of that year.
