1. In 1864, during the Civil War, Confederate forces under General John Hunt Morgan attempted to invade Kentucky by crossing the Ohio River. However, they were met with resistance from Union forces and ultimately retreated back into Indiana.
2. On November 5, 1895, the Kentucky State Capitol building in Frankfort was destroyed by a fire. The building was later rebuilt and reopened in 1909.
3. In 1908, Kentucky native George Schuster participated in the first ever transcontinental automobile race from New York to Paris. Schuster and his team, driving a 1907 Thomas Flyer, were the only team to complete the entire race, and were declared the winners.
4. On November 5, 1912, Democratic candidate Woodrow Wilson was elected the 28th President of the United States. Wilson carried Kentucky in the election, winning the state with 51.8% of the vote.
5. In November of 2002, Kentucky native Marcy Kaptur was reelected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Ohio's 9th district. Kaptur, who was born in Toledo but grew up on a farm in Lucas County, is the longest-serving woman in the history of the House of Representatives, having been first elected in 1982.
