1. Wyoming became a state on October 1, 1890. Prior to becoming a state, Wyoming had been a territory since 1868. It was the 44th state to join the United States.

2. In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Yellowstone National Park on October 1. This was the first visit by a sitting president to the park, which had been established in 1872.

3. On October 1, 1906, the Hendrie-Bolthoff Manufacturing and Supply Company was incorporated in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The company manufactured locomotives and other equipment for the railroad industry and was in business until 1913.

4. In 1961, the University of Wyoming's TV station, KUWC, went on the air for the first time on October 1. The station is still in operation today, broadcasting educational and public affairs programming to a statewide audience.

5. In 2008, the Christ Episcopal Church in Sheridan, Wyoming celebrated its 125th anniversary on October 1. The church was established in 1883 and continues to serve the community today.
