1. Wyoming became a state on October 2, 1890. It was the 44th state to join the Union.
2. On October 2, 1978, the C. F. Adams Steamboat was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The steamboat was built in 1882 and used to transport goods up and down the Missouri River.
3. In 1987, a monument was dedicated to the first woman to serve in the United States Senate, Nellie Tayloe Ross. Ross represented Wyoming and served from 1925 to 1927. The monument is located in Cheyenne and was dedicated on October 2.
4. On October 2, 1884, the first issue of the Wyoming Tribune was published in Cheyenne. The newspaper is still in publication today as the Wyoming Tribune Eagle.
5. The Wyoming State Penitentiary opened on October 2, 1901. It was located in Rawlins and housed some of the most notorious criminals in the state's history. The penitentiary closed in 1981 and is now a museum.
