1. In 1833, the first Ohio State Fair was held in Cincinnati. A commission was appointed to organize the fair after the Ohio Board of Agriculture requested a state fair be held to promote agriculture in the state. The event attracted over 50,000 people who came to see exhibits showcasing Ohio's manufacturing, livestock, and agriculture.

2. In 1892, the Columbus Barracks were established as a military post for the Army. The barracks were originally built to house troops during the Spanish-American War, but were later used to train soldiers for both World War I and World War II. Today, the site is home to the Defense Supply Center Columbus, a logistics agency for the Department of Defense.

3. In 1933, the Ohio University Marching Band performed for the first time at a football game. The band first appeared on the field during a game against Miami University, playing a medley of songs and performing a half-time show. Today, the Ohio University Marching Band is known for its high-energy performances and intricate formations.

4. In 1957, Ohio native Neil Armstrong was awarded his first pilot's license. Armstrong, who would later become the first person to walk on the moon, learned to fly as a teenager and went on to become a test pilot for the Air Force. He received his pilot's license after completing flight training at Wapakoneta Airport.

5. In 2000, the National Museum of the United States Air Force opened its fourth building at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The new building, which covers over 1 million square feet, houses many of the museum's larger exhibits, including the B-2 stealth bomber, the Space Shuttle, and a collection of presidential aircraft. The museum is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world.
