1. In 1803, Ohio became the 17th state to join the United States of America. The state had originally been part of the Northwest Territory, which was created by the federal government in 1787.

2. On October 24, 1912, Wilbert Robinson became the first manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers to win a World Series. Robinson was born in Ohio in 1863 and played for several teams during his career as a major league catcher.

3. In 1933, the Ohio River Flood devastated many communities in Ohio and other states. The flood was caused by heavy rainfall and snowmelt, and resulted in more than 100 deaths and billions of dollars in damage.

4. Ohio native Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, was born on August 5, 1930. On October 24, 1968, he and his fellow astronauts on the Apollo 7 mission became the first humans to orbit the Earth.

5. In 2002, the Cleveland Browns played their first game after a three-year absence from the NFL. The team was created in 1946 and played in Cleveland until 1995, when owner Art Modell controversially moved the franchise to Baltimore.
