2. On September 23, 1890, Idaho became the 43rd state in the United States. After being designated as a territory in 1863, Idaho went through a series of political changes and negotiations with Congress before finally achieving statehood.

3. In 1935, the world's first true missile, the A-7, was successfully tested at the Naval Proving Ground in Idaho. The missile was launched from an airplane and had the ability to fly at Mach 4.5, making it a significant advancement in military technology.

4. On September 23, 1963, the Teton Dam was completed near Rexburg, Idaho. The dam was intended to provide irrigation water for the surrounding farmland, but on June 5, 1976, the dam failed and flooded the surrounding area, causing significant destruction and loss of life.

5. In 1978, Ernest Hemingway's home in Ketchum, Idaho was opened as a museum dedicated to the author's life and work. Hemingway spent his last years in Ketchum and died there in 1961.
