1. In 1777, the Battle of Prigg's Fort was fought in present-day Camden County, Georgia during the American Revolutionary War. The Patriots, led by Colonel Samuel Elbert, emerged victorious, seizing British supplies and striking a blow against British control in Georgia.

2. On September 25, 1804, Georgia Governor John Milledge signed a law authorizing the construction of the University of Georgia, which would become the first public university in the United States. Today, the University of Georgia is one of the top research institutions in the country.

3. In 1908, the Atlanta Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) was established, laying the groundwork for the city's modern public transportation system. MARTA serves millions of riders each year across its network of buses and trains.

4. On September 25, 1957, Little Rock Nine member Ernest Green became the first African American to graduate from Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas, despite facing intense discrimination and violence during his time there. Green went on to become a prominent civil rights activist and government official.

5. In 2009, Atlanta native Tyler Perry unveiled a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, in recognition of his work as an actor, writer, and director. Perry is known for his popular Madea film series and his success in the entertainment industry as a black entrepreneur.
