1. The Georgia Tech campus was formally dedicated on September 26, 1888. Georgia Tech, originally known as the Georgia School of Technology, was founded to prepare men for work in agriculture, mechanical engineering, and other fields of industry. Today, Georgia Tech is known as a top-tier research university and is home to over 25,000 students.

2. The Battle of Peachtree Creek was fought near Atlanta on September 26, 1864, during the American Civil War. Confederate forces under General John Bell Hood attempted to stop Union General William T. Sherman's advance towards Atlanta, but were ultimately unsuccessful. The battle was one of the bloodiest fought during Sherman's March to the Sea.

3. On September 26, 1907, Atlanta hosted a concert featuring legendary African American composer and performer W.C. Handy. Handy, known as the "Father of the Blues," was a popular musician in the early 20th century and is credited with helping to popularize the blues genre.

4. The Georgia State Capitol building was dedicated on September 26, 1889. The building, which is located in downtown Atlanta, is home to the offices of the governor and other state officials, as well as the Georgia General Assembly.

5. September 26, 2006, marked the opening of the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. The aquarium, which is one of the largest in the world, is home to over 120,000 animals from 500 different species. It is also the only aquarium outside of Asia to house whale sharks.
