1. In 1907, the Oklahoma Constitutional Convention was held in Guthrie on September 25 and approved the state's first constitution. This constitution was approved by the people of Oklahoma in November of that same year and officially made Oklahoma the 46th state in the United States.
2. On September 25, 1916, the Cherokee National Council passed a resolution supporting a proposal to purchase 85,000 acres of land in northeastern Oklahoma to create a national park. This land became the basis of the present-day Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge.
3. On September 25, 1928, the State Capitol Building in Oklahoma City was officially dedicated by Governor Henry S. Johnston. The building, which took almost seven years to complete, is a prominent example of art deco architecture and features a dome covered in 23-carat gold leaf.
4. In 1955, Oklahoma native and country music legend, Garth Brooks, was born on September 25 in Tulsa. Brooks went on to become one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 170 million records sold worldwide.
5. On September 25, 2019, Oklahoma City Thunder player Russell Westbrook was honored with the key to the city of Tulsa. Westbrook attended Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, California, but was born in Long Beach, and spent some of his childhood in Tulsa before moving to southern California.
