1. In 1901, the Wisconsin State Fair's first Grandstand was built in West Allis. The Grandstand was added to the fairgrounds as a major attraction and could seat up to 12,000 people.
2. On September 6, 1887, Milwaukee became the first city in Wisconsin to have electric streetcars. The streetcars replaced horse-drawn carriages and trolleys that had previously operated in the city.
3. The Green Bay Packers played their first-ever game on September 6, 1919, against the Menominee North End Athletic Club. The game was played at Hagemeister Park in Green Bay and the Packers won 53-0.
4. In 1920, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was founded as the Milwaukee State Normal School. The school eventually became part of the University of Wisconsin System and today serves more than 27,000 students.
5. On September 6, 1943, a catastrophic explosion occurred at the Lake Shore Ordnance Plant in Milwaukee, killing 10 people and injuring more than 40 others.
